Fall Forum and the Charlotte Trip in December

October 23rd, 2008 by Nick Toptine

Hello OCJCL!

Our next meeting is closing in fast. November 5th will be here before we know it (especially with it being election day…). Everyone NEEDS to get in their forms AND money for BOTH Fall Forum and the field trip in December to the Pompeii exhibit in Charlotte by this meeting if you’re going to either!

On the Fall Forum forms, be sure to mark if you’re doing either Silly Olympica or Mixed Certamen. You cannot do both. If you’re doing Silly Olympica, the Silly Olympica form needs to be signed by you! If you’re doing Mixed Certamen, you need to be sure you’ve marked off what level of Certamen you’d be participating in based on your current level of Latin. The cost of Fall Forum is $14 for transportation (Registration and lunch have been covered by your dues)

If you plan on going to Charlotte for the Pompeii exhibit in December, be sure that form is filled out and you have the $52 for that trip as well. This will be on December 3rd, and will be a trip to remember!!

Hopefully we’ll get Certamen practice started up sometime in the next few weeks. We’re also going to be hitting spirit HARD at our next meeting. Spirit is one of the biggest parts of Fall Forum, so we need to hit it HARD! I will see you all on November 5th!

A Good Start

September 19th, 2008 by Nick Toptine

I must say, our meeting this week was definately a success! We had a great outcome, had fun doing a bit of spirit, and everyone loved painting the pumpkins! The ice cream was definately a plus!

I have to say, those pumpkins are pretty beast. Wonderful job everyone with painting those!

Our next General Meeting will be October 8th, likely from 4:00 to 5:30 again. We’re going to start talking more about the upcoming Fall Fourm (it’s getting closer!!), do much more spirit in preparation, hopefully be able to plan for the theme, talk about/plan a mixer for the month, and much, much more!! You won’t want to miss it!!

Don’t forget: THE FULL $60 DUES ARE DUE BY OCTOBER 15TH! It would be much better if everyone could get in the money by the October GM so it’ll all be in a week earlier than Mrs. Murray wants it, but be sure that it’s in by the 15th at the latest!!

Officers and designated minions, we are having an Executive Board meeting at Orange High on October 1st from 4:00 to 5:30. Please plan on being there. It would be great if one of our three Tech people could update the officer’s section of the website and update the calendar with upcoming dates.

I plan on FINALLY resizing and posting our pictures from the 2008 National JCL Convention by our next GM. Keep checking the gallery from time to time to see if I’ve gotten them up yet!

Valete Omnes! Videbo vos mox!

A New Year

September 16th, 2008 by Nick Toptine

Well, a new year for OCJCL is here. Sorry we didn’t update from Nationals….it was busier than you can even imagine. We have PLENTY of pictures, just need to resize them before I can get them online…sorry I never took the time to do that during the summer. Finally got the pictures from State Convention up, and there are still more to come.

In real news, our first GM is tomorrow afternoon at Cedar Ridge from 4:00 to 5:00. Do your best to be there. We have a surprise! Keep checking around the site during the year, as it WILL be updated frequently.

 Vale omnes!

Fare thee well OCJCL, thnx 4 th mmrz(how does thatwork? FOB stinks with txt spk)

alright.

So, the site hasnt really been updated since…well…February…or..perhaps March.
But the front hasn’t since February, and that is partially my fault.
So….I apologize for my bit.

However, here i am…early on a Wednesday morning(why am i up at 8???) posting here on this amazing site that we all know and love.

So….the year hath ended…
I am will be leaving my home of OCJCL and going to UNCG, joining their SCL…and it really does bring a tear to my eye.
We’ve lost Elizabeth has left us to go to NCSSM, hopefully joining their JCL so we can see her at FF, State, etc.
Leslie is going off to Campbell Univ.
Rachel and Maddie are going off to places  i dont really know of…So…yea.

But, i am very very _______(insert word  I cannot think of that sounds better than glad or proud) to be passing the Consul torch to our beloved former(maybe still? idr) Certamen Master, Sir Nicholas.  He really is the only one for the job; he was there by my side all year, as if he were Praetor……..bitter comments

We have a wonderful executive board this coming year.  I’m sure that our wonderful, yet still slacking, tech master will have things posted as soon as he gets tired of reading my spam emails.(Yes, Bill, i’m talking to you!)

 State Convention was friggin AWESOME!
We(as a whole and singular) placed in several categories.
We got 2nd in spirit both days, earning some awesome water guns and some ironic  pirate and ninja playsets.
2nd in banner….tho…well…bitter comments we’ve already heard tho first was beautiful as well.
2nd in Small? Scrapbook.. which, lemme say, that was ALOT more work than i had ever imagined! and on a side note, this coming year, OCJCL will have a bangin’ scrapbook, thanks to the ever wonderful and creative Layla, who has been placed as our(is it still ok to say things as tho i’m apart of it?) Scrapbook Historian.

So….whatelse..
uhm…Miss Nadia Nasir beasted the dramatic interpretation, earning herself 1st place.
Yours Truly earned 2nd in color pencil drawings
Alex Leith placed a few places with his artwork…tho forgive me for not remembering…:/
yea…there were a lot.
I personally think there should have been a Kareoke award, because if so,wecould have quite possibly earned ourselves first.

And then…
We had the awards Cena… that was fun. Lots of smart Latin kids haha yea, that’s not me. I just recieved things for being awesome.

Ahh….
the good times…
I will miss you all….
Sir Nicholas will have to takeover front page posting…idk if i will still have the site power i have now, once i am in college.

After the year is over, the next step for 6 OCJCL delegates and 2 sponsors/chaperones is National Convention at Miami Univ., Ohio. As one sixth of our delegation, i am extremely excited. Only one month and 2 days left! I know Sir Nicholas and Lauren are excited. Surely, there will be posts afterwards.

And once thatis over, i will be a member of SCL…..

But still.
OCJCL is like home to me;and italways will be.

So,whether i am Consul or not, I will always be you guys’

Scrapbook Retreat

February 16th, 2008 by Brittainy Jackson

Kay, so

We are here in Boone, at Magistra Peretti’s wonderful mountain house working on the scrapbook. And by “we” I mean Brittainy, Rachel A, Maddie, Cory, Layla, and Leslie(magistras as well).

Things are going good.
We’ve got color schemes, page layouts begun, an amazing flamingo stencil for page numbers.

So, hopefully all that will be left is printing and pasting pictures onto designated spots. There will be alot of scrapbook working at upcoming action meetings because we need to get this thing done ASAP! So, yea

Lots of stuff.

Tootles all
